overview
msg earth is an independently operated website (the “site”). this privacy policy explains how information is handled when you use the site.
information collected
when you submit an answer, the site collects:
- the answer submitted;
- the city selected;
- the question answered; and
- information required to display, group and count responses.
no account, name or email address is required to submit an answer.
the site also processes limited technical and usage information required to operate, secure and measure the service.
for rate limiting, a temporary identifier is derived from your ip address. the raw ip address is not stored in the site’s application database, and the identifier changes daily.
use of information
information is used to:
- operate the site and display responses;
- group, count and summarise answers;
- moderate submissions and prevent abuse;
- maintain and secure the service;
- measure aggregate usage;
- improve the site; and
- produce historical, statistical and analytical results.
msg earth may create, use, publish, share or license aggregated or de-identified data and insights, including for research, media, sponsorship and commercial purposes.
msg earth does not sell personal information.
public submissions
answers submitted to the site are public.
an answer may be displayed with the selected city and may appear in grouped results, historical results, reports, social content or other msg earth material.
do not include names, contact details, addresses or other personal information in an answer.
service providers and overseas processing
the site uses third-party service providers, including vercel for hosting and analytics and supabase for database infrastructure.
service providers may process technical information, including ip addresses and request logs, as part of providing their services.
information may be processed outside australia, including in the united states.
retention
accepted answers may be retained as part of the site’s historical results.
text from rejected submissions may be retained temporarily for moderation and operational purposes and is scheduled for deletion within 30 days.
aggregated and de-identified information may be retained indefinitely.
because the site does not maintain public user accounts or persistent user identities, msg earth may not be able to identify which anonymous submission belongs to a particular person.
security
reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect information handled by the site. no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
age
the site is intended only for people aged 18 or older.
if you are under 18, do not use the site or submit answers.
changes
this policy may be updated from time to time. the current version will be published on this page with its latest update date.
